Under the patronage of the esteemed Dean, Professor Dr. Abdulkarim Hussein Ismail, and directed by the Student Activities Division, the internal Chess Tournament for the departments of Al-Mamoun University College has commenced. The tournament will last for three days, after which its activities will resume following the conclusion of the Iraqi Universities Chess Championship.
In this regard, the esteemed Dean emphasized that chess is a unique educational tool that challenges the minds of both boys and girls, the gifted and the less gifted, as well as the rich and the poor alike. Chess is a game with multiple cognitive and mental benefits, particularly for young people, as it helps develop their logical and strategic thinking and teaches them patience. It is one of the few games that enhance mathematical abilities and strengthen logical intelligence. Chess also enhances a young person's ability to assess others' positions and responses and to plan their moves accordingly, ultimately progressing toward their primary goal. Teachers and parents, perhaps more than anyone else, are aware of the specific skills and abilities that chess develops in their children, as studies show the game’s ability to enhance these areas.
