About the department

Vision, mission and objectives

The role of the Information Technology (IT) Department, as an administrative and technical structure within the university, differs from that of the academic department where students study. At Al-Ma'moun University, this department serves as the technical backbone connecting the university's administrative and educational departments.

1. Position in the Administrative Structure

The IT Department is often directly linked to the university president or the vice president for administrative affairs. This direct link grants it the authority to oversee all other departments technically.

2. Units and Divisions within the Department

To manage the university's technical operations, the department is typically divided into several specialized units:

Networks and Communications Division: Responsible for extending and managing the Wi-Fi network and the intranet that connects the departments.

Systems and Software Division: Manages the university's official website and develops software systems (such as the online registration system and the personnel system).

E-Learning Unit: Supports educational platforms (such as Google Classroom or Moodle) and trains faculty members on their use.

Maintenance and Technical Support Division: Responsible for maintaining computers, printers, and surveillance cameras throughout the college.

3. Major Administrative and Technical Tasks

The department implements strategic tasks that ensure the smooth operation of Al-Ma'moun University:

Task Description

Digital Transformation: Converting paper-based transactions between departments to electronic transactions to reduce bureaucracy.

Information Security: Protecting student and faculty data from breaches and ensuring the confidentiality of grades and results.

Email Management: Providing official academic email addresses (@almamon.edu.iq) to students and faculty to enhance official communication.

Electronic Archiving: Saving student files and old and new official documents in secure databases.

4. The Department's Role in Quality Assurance

The IT Department is closely linked to the "Quality Assurance Department," which we explained previously, as it provides it with:

Data and Statistics: Providing the administration with accurate reports on pass rates, attendance, and student engagement online.

Survey Portal: Creating technical platforms that allow students to evaluate their academic performance with complete confidentiality.

5. Student Relationships (Service-Related)

From an administrative perspective, students interact with this department when:

Activating their official university account.

Opposing problems with e-learning platforms.

Obtaining electronic or smart university IDs (if available).

In short: The Information Technology Department at Al-Ma'moun University is not merely a computer repair shop; it is the entity responsible for planning and implementing the university's digital policy and providing the infrastructure that faculty, students, and staff alike rely on.
